Wednesday, March 27, 2024 - SMART Envisioning Our Transportation Future Series: Del Paso Blvd

We’d like to thank everyone who made it out to the event we hosted in partnership with the Environmental Council of Sacramento – ECOS. A big thanks to our sponsors and to Mayor Darrell Steinberg for your ongoing support. Be sure to check back in with us as SMART and ECOS will continue to host a series of events about transit oriented housing and mixed use development in communities around Sacramento!

About the event:

SMART hosted a dynamic, multimodal event highlighting the potential for new transit-oriented housing and mixed-use development along Del Paso Boulevard on Wednesday, Mar 27, 4:30-6:30pm.

The event began with a walking tour showcasing opportunities around the existing Globe Avenue Light Rail Station and the planned Valley Rail station. A reception featuring free refreshments welcomed guests as they entered the venue. The main event program closed with a series of short presentations exploring Del Paso Boulevard’s bright future as a vibrant hub for economic development and community growth.

Thursday, March 7, 2024 - Link21 Bay Crossing Project Discussion

We invite you to join us Thursday, March 7, 1:30-3pm for a joint meeting on Zoom with the Sacramento Regional Rail Working Group (SRRWG) that is focused on intercity and regional rail, with a special presentation by CCJPA/BART on the Link21 Bay crossing project.

 

Agenda 

  • Bay Area Link21 TransBay Project, featuring a discussion of the design options for the new BART/intercity passenger rail TransBay crossing between Oakland and San Francisco, including whether the new tunnel will accommodate BART and/or intercity passenger trains. The recommendation will be presented to the BART and CCJPA Boards in mid-2024.
  • Valley Rail Project, featuring new new train stations in Midtown, North Sac, Natomas (w/ airport connection), City College, and Elk Grove, to accommodate ACE and San Joaquin trains to Silicon Valley and the Central Valley 
  • Capitol Corridor service expansion to Roseville
  • Sac Valley Station, Sac RT, and other local transit projects

April 19, 2023 SMART General Meeting

SMART and the Sacramento Regional Rail Working Group (SRRWG) jointly hosted an online Zoom presentation on Wed, April 19, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. on the future of intercity passenger rail in Northern California. Speakers from the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin, and ACE rail agencies providde updates on recent developments and plans for future expansion of their service, and Rob Padgette, CCJPA Managing Director, presented a summary of state and federal funding opportunities.

January 18, 2023 SMART General Meeting

Our guest speaker was Dr. Na’amah Razon, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California at Davis. Dr. Razon spoke about her research investigating how transportation insecurity impacts dialysis outcomes and patients’ quality of life with the goal of developing a model to address transportation insecurity.

We were joined by Henry Li, General Manager and CEO of Sacramento Regional Transit who shared information on federal support for transit and the potential impact in the Sacramento region. April 20, 2022  General Meeting

Our guest speakers Jim Allison and Dan Leavitt told us about rail projects in the Sacramento Region. Here is the presentation on Capitol Corridor’s Systemwide Capital Program. Additionally, here are the slides for the Valley Rail update about projects and progress on bringing new intercity rail service to Sacramento and the region.

March 16, 2022  General Meeting

Casey Courtright, Senior Manager in Revenue and Analytics of the Sacramento Regional Transit District, was the guest speaker for this month’s meeting. Check out this presentation to learn more about family budgets and how it impacts transportation accessibility.

We welcomed West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero and West Sacramento City Council Member Chris Ledesma who shared the West Side Story of the vision for the future of transit and transportation in West Sacramento.

January 19 General Meeting

We got the new year off to a great start with a presentation by Chris Dougherty on SACOG’s Next Generation Transit Strategy to link our region and move seamlessly across the cities and counties in our area.

November 17 General Meeting

SMUD CEO, Paul Lau, gave a very informative and inspirational presentation on the California Mobility Center and SMUD’s role as a leader in electrifying personal and commercial transportation.

November 3 Fall Reception for SMART

Our fundraiser was a huge success and it wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors, volunteers, and the over 80 attendees who came to support our mission! Our special guest speaker was Robin Stimson, VP Business Development at Siemens Mobility, who shared how rail is playing a role in protecting our climate and doing its part in Sacramento County. We also made special recognition of SMART co-founder JoAnn Fuller. Her vision and persistence in establishing SMART is another example of her life-long commitment to a better world for all.

 August 18 General Meeting

Local funding prospects and state-level transportation policies will be addressed with an update from Mr. Henry Li (SacRT CEO) and Ms. Nailah Pope-Hardin (California Climate Plan coalition) will share what the CA Transportation Agency’s transportation policy says about equity in transportation access.
